dunkXchange • DXC • Washington, DC

I headed out to the nation’s capitol this weekend for the dunkXchange (DXC). DXC was hosted at Fur Nightclub, during daylight hours of course, and sneakerheads from all over the DMV showed up to buy, sell and trade sneakers. Sneaker enthusiasts from toddlers to older guys, came out to pick up high priced sneakers like limited Nike Dunks, Jordans, and of course Foamposites. The event jumped off immediately and people flooded the floor, started pulling shoes out of boxes, and ran back and forth trying to find that one shoe they desired most. It was all there. I saw people wearing shoes I’ve never seen, and some that aren’t scheduled to release for months (can you say FIGHTER JET WHITE CAMO FOAMPOSITES?)

It was a great opportunity for Concrete Fields. I met a lot of great people, from instagram followers to other brand owners, and even hooked up ASAP Addie with a Pullin Pistols t-shirt! I could probably write for hours about everything, but most of all I appreciate people putting their hard earned dollars behind Concrete Fields. I know money does not come easy these days, and I will continue to focus on having fun and giving customers the best experience possible.

Oh, and don’t forget, TWO NEW SHIRTS DROP IN JANUARY!

Don’t Call It a Comeback…

We’ve been here all along. I haven’t posted in a while… March to be exact. We’re almost at 3 months! It’s been a long time, and I can tell you two words that will correlate with the slow down on posts: baseball season. What you may not know is while I’m busy working on Concrete Fields, I hold down a full-time job, two sons, and stay busy with freelance photography and graphic design. As you can see I’m busy. But when March comes, that means baseball season starts for my oldest son and this year I helped coach the team which kept me busy over the last two months. We ended with second place for the season and it was great seeing all the kids work hard and in the end come out with a trophy.

So while my personal life has kept me busy, I’ve still been sketching and working on the next release for Concrete Fields. This will not be a one and done company. I have continued to receive some orders, but truth be told, not at the pace I have wanted. It has been important for Concrete Fields to start up, but it is now important for Concrete Fields to establish. I want Concrete Fields on the map, in stores, and in people’s mind. I want to take Concrete Fields to the next level and I feel that I have a plan in place to do that. I have not been wasting away and letting this brand fade away. The Summer 2012 release from Concrete Fields will have a theme and presence to awaken the streetwear industry. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Very soon I will be launching another project on Kickstarter. I did not want to go back to Kickstarter because I was hoping to be fully functioning and able to roll all my profits over into the next line of production, however I don’t have a large enough profit margin to do that. Plain and simple, I’d like to also do what many others have not, and that is to do this debt free. In these economic times I hope that can be appreciated. I may catch some heat for that belief, I may be respected, but I know that this brand will always be able to say it wasn’t started by one, but many.

Western Tink • Beautiful Lou • Mobbin No Sobbin

Western Tink is cool. That’s first. This guy is working hard on putting out some unique rap from the Lone Star state of Texas. The second thing you need to know is Austin is where he lays his head at night, but I’m not sure how many nights he’s sleeping because he drops new videos and music constantly. The bulk of his work right now is collected on a couple of mixtapes you can find over at bandcamp called Hater Fader and Hard To Keel Vol. 1. He’s definitely created some ripples in the rap community with his chill flow coupled with thoughtful lyrics and high-caliber production. Tink collaborates with a number of producers that just seem to fit his style and flow like Phaseone, Tae Beast, Mike Picasso, Vash Vega and Squadda B to name a few, but his right hand man is Beautiful Lou. Beautiful Lou has been puttin out some INSANE work in the production lab, and I know it’s a lab because there’s some science behind these beats, and recently been getting the tip of the hat for his work with A$AP Rocky on his tracks ‘Trilla’ and ‘Kissin Pink’.

So you take these two guys and put them together in a peanut butter and beastmode sandwich and you got Mobbin No Sobbin. A Batman and Superman powerhouse team-up just waiting to decimate the competition later this spring/summer with their mixtape. But that isn’t enough for these two! They don’t stop. These guys hustle harder than any in the game these days, like I said, always dropping mixtapes and videos… and not just throwing stuff out there, it’s always quality, and this month has been no exception. Tink and Lou announced the release of a mini-mixtape, Chillin Like A Civilian and they already dropped a video to go along with that mixtape called ‘Burrr‘. Tink brings his usual flow and well thought out lyrics and crushes the Alchemist beat he’s on. But what’s even cooler about this video is he’s rocking a Concrete Fields t-shirt throughout the video! Switching between the Concrete Fields shirt and his own Mobbin No Sobbin shirt, Tink reps CF and we got to throw a salute from VA to TX! If you want to know what #NoDaysOff looks like, and how a grind works, stay locked on Western Tink and Beautiful Lou, they’ll show you all you need to know.

Late Spring/Summer 2012 Line • Nike All-Star Galaxy Collection

The 2012 NBA season was shortened and it seems like just yesterday the season started. And now it’s already time for the All-Star Game in Orlando and Nike is going all out with sneaker releases. Last night at midnight they released 3 colorways of the Nike Dunk High Premium All-Star Galaxy edition. What makes these so cool is a translucent sole, the space program inspired graphics, and specifically the velcro Nike swoosh that can be removed from the shoe. The graphic on the tongue is also removable and there is this really cool outerspace graphic on the lining of the shoe.

Now the other shoes dropping tonight at midnight are the signature shoes for Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Kevin Durant. All of these shoes feature design elements inspired by outer space, the space program and NASA. These shoes have an amazing look, but the ground breaking part of these shoes is the sole. All the soles are GLOW-IN-THE-DARK!!! These shoes are pretty much intergalactic fire.

There is a major shoe dropping at midnight tonight that is unattainable unless you’ve been camping out for the last day or two. I refuse to mention them because they’re getting enough publicity already!

Lastly, I’ve been working on a lot of design and scheming for the late spring/summer launch for this brand. I’m not releasing previews of the design work, the day you see it first, it will be available in the store. Some thing that WILL be part of this line will be at least 4 new t-shirt designs, buttons, several stickers and some other top-secret products I’m not going to reveal. Hold close to Concrete Fields for news and updates. Sign up for the newsletter. Follow on twitter. Follow on tumblr. Like on facebook. Tell your friends.

Back to the grind…
